Firwire?

Ayup!

Sorry about this dumb question, but.......

If I had Firewire installed in my PC, would my PC recognise my video camera?

How much does one cost, more or less, in pounds?

The CD that came with the camera went AWOL (thanks to Mr. furniture removal man)

You should get a decent firewire pci card for a tenner or less.

There are a few here as examples :

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/search/index.html?rb=22238645228&strSearch=&intSubcatUID=1275&bolShowAll=true

If your pc doesnt recognise and install the necessary drivers automatically then I am sure we can help you find the ones you need if you tell us what the make and model of your camera is and which operating system you are using.

If you can use a screwdriver then you can install it yourself John.

They really are easy to add to a pc and usually I would expect it to take almost 5 minutes to open the case, fit the card and fasten the case side back on.

It may take a few more minutes to install the drivers if your OS doesnt pick the card up and install them automatically but I would be amazed if the whole job from start to finish would take as long as 30 minutes.

If you need any advice on how to do it, just ask  :)

Thanks for that Sandra, but I think I'll have to take it along to get another problem sorted out; the PC crashes with any game that my kids and I try to start. I thought that it was just one game causing the problem, but it now seems that there is an error somewhere. I'd rather leave that to the experts because it's so easy to make these problems worse.

The next problem is separating the PC from my kids for a day
They can't do without there daily dose of 'chat'.

Cheers

Ok John, if there are other problems then you may as well get them sorted at the same time.
In fact I would always get the problem sorted before adding any new hardware or programs.

Are the PC specs up to the games that you are having problems with ?

Yep! No problems with the specs. One minute the games were working, and then they were making the PC crash. Everything else works fine.
Possible registry problem?

Btw, the driver I need is for this digital video camera:

JVC GR-DX25

Hello!

I bought a new PC with firewire and wifi installed and it works just fine. I had problems configuring the wifi, but the good news is that the firewire recognised my camera as soon as I connected it. I've already edited and copied a few recordings onto CD.

While I'm here, I've got a bluetooth problem. The bluetooth worked on my kids PC, but with the new PC I get this error:

----------------
Runtime error!
program...os de program\IVT Corporation\BlueSoleil\BlueSoleil.exe

abnormal program termination
----------------

os de program means 'os OF program'
'Bluesoliel' is the product name.

This happened at the end of a phone/PC transfer, and the bluetooth program shut down. I've reinstalled it a few times with the same result.

Any ideas?

Btw,  :hny:

John

Hi John, and  :hny:

This won't really help you, but I had a similar problem with a BlueSoleil USB bluetooth adapter.  I can't remember what the exact error message was now, but in the end, I gave up and got a Belkin one, which installed and runs with no problem at all.
