I watched C4s The Last Slave at 8pm this evening.
It was very interesting to see how the black guy investigating his great, great grandfathers memoirs came to the realisation that africans were selling each other into slavery for years before the europeans arrived in Africa.
Also that it was probably his own family that had sold his great, great grandfather to the slaver traders.
Then came the biggest shock, far from the white man being the cause of africans and their descendants problems all over the world as most black people seem to think, the africans in the area that his great, great grandfather came from thought that the benefits that the white man gave them, such as civilisation, far outweighed any problems caused by their part in the slave trade.
I wonder if those guys wanting the UK government to apologise and give compensation to descendants of black slaves, will now stop asking for that and appreciate that if their ancestors hadnt been sold by their own countrymen into slavery then they would probably still be dieing of starvation or aids in africa and not enjoying the benefits of western civilisation, education and lifestyle
