New Mobo + CPU
« on: March 20, 2007, 16:59 »
As above, looking to upgrade CPU & mobo.

Question as I am running XP home, will I have trouble when I boot up the new system running OEM XP. Will it treat the set up as a new PC.

Yes.  Er, probably.  But it might just ask you to reactivate Windows.  I had to when I installed some new memory recently.  Otherwise it will mean a phone call to New Delhi.

Nope  ;D  I have an idea that the phone number is given on a need to know basis.  ;)

No, really, I haven't got it.  I think it's given when you reactivate Windows, hence, when you need to know it.  ;D

Theres a small regfix called Mergeide that you can add to XP on the current setup before you swap the mobo and cpu that should allow you to run on the new setup without any need to reinstall or reactivate.

Its on Microsofts site somewhere, I will see if I can find the link for it later.
