This is really one for you maths geeks, i.e. me, but its quite good fun and will probably keep the older ones minds active (though I won't name any names!)

just solving the determinate of the matrix - i.e:

a = | x1 x2 |
     |x3 x4 |

det matrix[a] = (x1 *x4) - (x2*x3)

this would have been O level maths when you did it... we didn't do this till we got to second year A-level!!!! Ok it might be a bit too much like hardwork though..

Actually, I used to quite enjoy maths at school, and am fairly good at the numbers game on Countdown!  ;D

ok, so do you see what you need to do... you need to times the two diagonals together and take the / away from \ to equal the number given
