Bloody PETA Parody Skewers Cooking Mama Game

Just in time for Thanksgiving, the folks at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are parodying Cooking Mama with a blood-soaked browser game.

Titled Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, the game plays much like the popular Nintendo DS and Wii series of cartoony kitchen casual games, but with an eye toward grossing out the player so much about the idea of eating meat that he or she promptly orders a Tofurkey for next week's celebrations.

The propagandistic parody casts the ordinarily affable Mama as a knife-wielding murderess with a demonic glare in her eyes.

"We're having a bit of fun at Mama's expense, but there's nothing funny about the suffering endured by turkeys and other animals who are killed for food," said PETA representative Joel Bartlett in a statement released Monday.

The game concludes by asking the player to join a letter-writing campaign against Majesco, publisher of Cooking Mama, asking the company to release a vegetarian-themed version of the series. On Tuesday, Majesco will release the new Wii version of the game, Cooking Mama: World Kitchen.

Majesco had no comment as of press time.

If I were Majesco, I'd be happy: Protests only cause games to sell more copies. This parody is so clever, it will surely spread so quickly and attract more attention to Tuesday's release of the Wii game.
