The only thing the guide doesn't say is, what to do with all of your backed up documents, when half of them won't open with Linux.  ::)

MS Office documents?  Outlook emails?

I still have my old computer sitting here idle, and wouldn't mind trying it out on a proper PC, rather than that stupid Eee PC thing, but I just don't have time to start on something like that at the moment.

Ms office documents are simple - they all open in open office (which you can try on windows if you want), apart from publisher files, but you can get converters for those.

Outlook emails - I don't see why not, I'd expect you can import them into thunderbird.

No, you can't, Sam, at least, not simply.  That's one glitch with TB, you can't convert easily from Outlook / OE or vice versa.

are you sure, I'm sure when I did it, it was quite simple... (but that's simple to me, so possibly required quite a bit of effort)

I think the challenge arises when you have multiple accounts in Thunderbird, instead of one global inbox, like in Outlook / OE, but I guess, if you were starting from scratch, you'd only have the one account to start with anyway.
