Friar Tuck Re-invented
« on: March 28, 2009, 21:36 »
The Beeb has scandalised historians by re-inventing Friar Tuck as a black martial arts expert in the third series of Robin Hood.  Not that it matters to me - the whole series is laden with so many historical inaccuracies that it's utterly ridiculous anyway.

What I did find amusing was the misprint in the Daily Mail report which describes Friar Tuck as " a black marital arts expert" !  What a pity they didn't lapse into spoonerisms with the character's name too.

I stopped watching it after the first episode of the first series.  Re-inventing history purely to be politically correct, is just plain ridiculous.

I don't watch it but its just story telling - pure fantasy and there isn't anything wrong with that - though you have to hope a whole generation doesn't grow up to believe that's how it was...

Its a shame that they killed maid Marian off Gill as they could have properly been pc in representing minorities. if they had cast a one legged, black lesbian actress to play her  :)x

I didn't know they'd killed Maid Marian until I read the newspaper article.  As I said, it's not a series I watch.  I think I saw the first ten minutes of the first episode and gave up, flabbergasted at how bad it was and the historical howlers.

Bring back Michael Praed!  Robin of Sherwood (and the Clannad soundtrack) still sets the standard.
