Large Hadron Collider progress delights researchers
« on: November 22, 2009, 11:08 »
Researchers working on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) say they are delighted with the progress made since the machine restarted on Friday.

One official said the collider had done more in a few hours than it did in five days of operations last year.  The LHC is being used to smash together beams of protons in a bid to shed light on the nature of the Universe.

definitely a busy time for particle physicists - they'd better slow down or they will be all out of a job once they detect the particles they expect

Will they be allowed to announce it if they actually find the higgs boson or god particle though Sam  ???
The Godfather (aka the pope), the chief rabbis and the ayotollahs will all get together and issue fatwahs and other death threats to silence any proof that their gods dont exist and that they have been lieing to the ordinary people for centuries in some cases and millenia in others, in order to control the people and have a good living for themselves, without having to work for it ::)

The LHC is back in the race to spot the enigmatic and hypothetical Higgs Boson again!  The American Fermilab collider has been hoping to pip it to the post since LHC was unexpectedly closed down last year.  Whoever gets there first wins the biggest 'prize' in particle physics.

Of course, assuming that it is actually there - or they get up to the energies. In a way as a scientist it would be much more interesting if they didn't find it - would cause the whole particle physics model to have to be rethought.
