ITV programmes are aimed towards the "lowest common denominator", channel bosses have said.

That's been apparent for years, which is why I rarely even look at the listings for ITV nowadays.  Yet when ITV decides to pull out the stops, it can be magnificent.  Only last night I was watching Unforgiven which was screened earlier this year.  MY hubby hasn't seen it, and his comment was, "If ITV can make programmes like this, why don't they?  All they usually seem to make are kiddies programmes for adults".

I rarely watch ITV myself but if you enjoy period drama then Downton Abbey is one of their best offerings for years.

They do a few things well, but so few that I rarely go near the channel.

I fear he's beyond redemption, Rik.

What ITV want to do is to get rid of these rubbish and boring "Reality" Shows and bring back real entertainers. These "Non Celebrities" are the cause of the decline of Television. Half of these rubbish entertainers cant even speak the Queens English, let alone entertain. These morons draw big money, leaving little cash to employ real entertainers.

In my youth I had the pleasure of working backstage at some of the Isle of Wights theatres, and met many of the big entertainers of the day, and most had the same story to tell of slogging for years, learning their craft before having "overnight" success; some difference to the one appearance on a reality show and then being called a celebrity.

Tommy Trinder regailed me with his stories of travelling all over the Country, loading props and scenery into trains with all the cast working as a family before his London Palladium fame.

I too love Corrie!
