Every time I try to play a song on my computer (a cd,mp3,...) Iget a blue screen with "error in VMCPD(1)" and some other errors, it happens every time and i cant seem to help it

I got: Intel Pentium III 933 mhz
Windows ME
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Soundcard

Can any1 plz help me?

It is possible that the VMCPD.VXD file is corrupt, although WinME should protect system files from damage.

Another possibility is a problem with the drivers for your sound card. Have you looked for updated drivers for the Santa Cruz card?

yes I got the latest drivers

Have you tried re-installing the sound card?  Also, what media player are you using?  It probably wouldn't hurt to re-install that as well.  Only guessing.

I would also try removing the drivers, moving the sound card to a different PCI slot and re-installing the drivers.

The error relates to a maths co-processor error and can be caused by numerous things on ME (seems to be a very common fault).

Usual causes:

1. Graphics driver
2. Sound driver

Usual solutions:
1. Reinstall both video and sound-card software
2. Re-install Direct X
3. Change OS

I'd probably try running the direct X diagnostic first to see what it makes of it (start->run->dxdiag). If, as suspected, it is a sound card issue then try dropping the acceleration down to see if that fixes it as a quick fix.

I just dropped down the hardware acceleration and everything seems to work fine now, only that the sound goes louder at quiet moments and goes quiet at loud moments but that aint a problem for me, thx guys
