Topic: mozilla second time around

I have decided to give Mozilla a second shot as IE6 is acting up something rotten.  I have downloaded a lovely apple green theme and I don't have to look at the ugly lizard any more. The only thing I find at the moment is, it is a bit slow to open up and I thought with my lovely new BB it would open in a flash.

You mean Mozilla itself is a bit slow to open up, or the web pages once it's running?

If you go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced, you should have the box ticked to enable Quick Launch (see below).  This should make it a bit quicker starting up, Lona, as it will be sitting ready in your System Tray.

I have noticed quite a few web pages being a bit slow tonight, so maybe there's a problem somewhere on the Internet.  Don't let it put you off - once you get used to Moz, you'll never go back!

You have downloaded Mozilla 1.5, right ?  Well I was on 1.4 and when 1.5 came out, I downloaded that, not that it appeared to offer any added benifits to what 1.4 offered me. And you know what, it slowed my PC up no end. So I reinstalled 1.4 and it was fine again.

Right, yesterday I thought, maybe some bugs in it that they have sorted out...give it another go...same thing, so I'm back on 1.4
Now maybe it is OK on XP, but iffy on W2K and ME.

So if I were you Lona, I would try downloading the latest 1.4.1  build from

I have to admit, 1.4.1 does seem slightly more robust than 1.5, although there should be no reason for that.  I would second Tony's advice, Lona.  If you want to swap, uninstall 1.5 with Add / Remove, but before you install 1.4.1, also delete the 'Mozilla.org' folder from C:\Program Files, to ensure a clean install.  You won't lose your Bookmarks or settings as there are hidden elsewhere.

I have version 1.4 which was the one you told me about Simon. I had never removed it, so I just re-installed that version.  I won't go for version 1.5 then. Is there a 1.4.1 version?. I didn't tick the quicklaunch when I installed it as I thought it would slow down my bootup. I do find that there are some sites it won't allow me into. A message comes up which says "access denied" but I can get in using IE.
I will certainly read more up on it, as I didn't really give it a proper try last time.

Looking good, Lona!  OK, you have the best version, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to get 1.4.1 from the link Tony posted above, which you can just install on top of 1.4.  It just fixes a few bugs, which you might not even have noticed.  You also need the IE View plug in from http://ieview.mozdev.org/, which again is very simple to install.  This will enable you to right click any page or link, and there will be an option to open it in IE.  Once you've got that, you can't go wrong!

Thanks guys. .  I have installed the IEview plug-in but when I go to upgrade to 1.4.1 the download page takes me to 1.5. Any suggestions.?

You might have to re-install the IE plug in, though.

Will it install ok over the top of 1.4 or should I uninstall 1.4 first?

You should be able to install it on top OK.  It's only when you change versions (i.e. 1.4 to 1.5) you need to uninstall first.

Ok, Simon all installed. I have also re-installed the IEview plugin.  Should there be something showing on the toolbar to show that the plugin has been installed?

No there's not, Lona, but if you right click anywhere on the page, you'll see 'View this page in IE' as an option in the list.  Similarly, if you want to open a new link in IE, right click it and select 'Open link target in IE'.
