Outlook

I don't if anyone can help me with this one.

Unfortunately broadband has not yet reached this part of rural Kent, so I'm on a dialup using Home Highway.

I run Windows XP Home and just upgraded to Office 2003 from Office 2000.

Before the upgrade, I was able to simply click on my Outlook 2000 desktop icon and it would automatically dial up and collect messages. Similarly when I had it running in the background and set to send and collect every 30 minutes, it did it automatically.

Now, with Outlook 2003, even with everything ticked asking for automatic send and receive, I still get the dialup panel for my connection coming up asking me to hit the 'Dial' button. When I do, it connects no problem. But it's a pain that collecting email has now basically become a manual process.

The same happens every 30 minutes with the dialup panel coming up and it won't do a send/receive until I hit 'Dial'.

I'd also mention that when I connect to the net via Internet Explorer, it does so automatically, so there's no problem there.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for the link Hookstar. I tried the Microsoft 'fix', but it doesn't work.

Did a shutdown and reboot, just to make sure.

Thanks for trying, though.

Your question won't be forgotten Lodge.  Someone will try and come up with a solution later I promise.

This is no help, but if it's any consolation, Lodge, I had Office XP Pro, before Office 2003, and I haven't managed to make either of them dial up automatically to check mail.  Annoying isn't it!

Thanks everyone, for your help, but I've found out how to do it:

From the Outlook 2003 Inbox, it's Tools > Send/Receive settings > Define Send/Receive groups > ... highlight the group and then ... Edit > Account Properties > Connection > ... and then 'Properties' of your dialup connection ... > Options and then untick where it says 'Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc.'

I hope this works for you too, Simon.

Cheers and thanks again to all.
