Im running windows xp pro with a 200gb maxtor diamond max 10 serial ata hard drive.

Over the weekend i encountered the BSOD with the error message Kernel Stack Inpage Error with lots of numbers after it  

On reebooting xp couldnt find a HD and no bios installed and was searcing for ide drives etc and would not load.

I did a little googling and concluded that my problem was related to the drives power supply cabling. So i disconnected the power cable to the drive reconnected it and it booted no probems for a while then the same thing happened again BSOD (Same message) etc .

So yesterday i changed the power cable to the HD and it worked again, I left it on over night and it crashed   but no BSOD this time just a failure to find HD on bootup.

Removing and replacing the power connector to the HD enables it to boot up again but unfortunately i think its just a matter of time before i will get the same problems again.

Anybody have any ideas?

Hi Sandra, I have checked that page and didnt find the info relevant as on the both occasions i encountered the BSOD, the "Lots of numbers" were different on both occasions and there do not appear to be any bad sectors on the drive although i am unable to check with maxblast or power max utility and there is nothing in the system log that indicates an error!

I will check the numbers that it threw at me again just to make sure i have not missed anything. I have checked the RAM and it appears ok but perhaps i had better leave the ram test run for longer.

What does work is disconnecting the HD power cable and reconnecting it and then all is fine but it appears to be unstable and i cant figure out why or how

Duff PSU at a Guess  

New components are at their most vulnerable when new..thats the prime time for them to break up IMHO.

Solution
Please do the following:
1. clear CMOS
2. load high performance default
3. go to advanced chipset setup (dont need to change anything)
4. press ESC
5. Save & exit

Nvidia has added some modules on the BIOS for memory performance & stability. However, the modules need to load both high performance default & go to advanced chipset setup as mentioned in order for the modules to finished initializing

Not really Kevin, usually its by substitution unless you know someone whos into electronics and could test it underload  

Its sounding like a mobo fault, as its not recognising the boot drive by the sound of it

Well I changed the psu and no difference still exactly the same  

It will have to go back again  :brick:

This computer has spent more time being repaired than it has with me  :curse:
