Automated WindowsME Installation
« on: September 26, 2004, 00:58 »
You can use the same "Batch 2.0" program available by Microsoft for Windows95 and 98 to create a fully unattended installation of WindowsME.

With it you can enter it the Product ID as well as what components you want to install.

Batch 2.0

(Sorry, I've chosen this trick without unerstanding exactly it's advantages. I thought that it might be useful to those who use "Windows ME". They must understand and use it better than me.)

XP has a similar feature too Joudi, its really for people who build a lot of pcs and want to preinstall the OS before selling it.
Its not much of a problem for most people to hang around while installing an OS and putting the info in as required.
If you are building a lot of pcs then its wasted time as you can build a pc while sitting there waiting for it to install and watching for when it needs your input  :)

Thanks Sandra,

I thought it might be something to repair or to add missing elements to "Windows ME".

Another time I'll try to find more useful tricks.   ;)

When you use the auto-install function, what information does it put in?  Or do you have to specify that first?

Have a look at this article Simon :

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314459&Product=winxp

It specifies Intel based pcs for some reason, maybe someone knows if it will also work on AMD ones too  ???

This may be handy if you only have an original pre SP1 version of XP and dont intend to update to SP2, as rebooting after a lot of the updates can be time consuming too :

I've opened the first link Sandra, and felt lost in it. It's too hard for me to understand that technical language. (Anyway, it's not so important to me).

Tried the second link. It didn't open. Is it only my PC?

Oh...Just noticed that it misses the

at the beginning.
