Thank you Clive, this project is rather important to me and to my committee; the government are spending 42 million pounds in this area so it?s necessary to get the presentation right if we are to get any extra funds for our community :)

Yes, presentation is everything these days.  I'm treasurer of a local project we have in obtaining Christmas lights for our village.  So far we have managed to get £3,000 out of the Community Council and another £3,000 from a trust fund.  Today we have been promised £400 (the cost of one light) from Westbury Homes who have a large building project in the village.  The County Council have agreed to pay the electric bill.   ;D  £42 million is a much nicer figure to play around with though.   8)

Thanks Dave.  They do seem a lot cheaper than the ones we have opted for.  I suppose we could paint a father Christmas on them?

:lol: Clive.

Seriously though, I hope you have more luck with your lights than Chorley has had over the years.  Several years ago, Ken Dodd was hired to switch on the lights, threw the switch and absolutely nothing happened.  However, easily the most memorable incident was when one of the two giant Christmas trees that are erected at each end of the town centre had all its coloured lights stolen, in spite of the fact that it was standing directly underneath one of the  CCTV cameras.

Now, back on topic, I must click on Lobo's link which is what I intended to do in the first place.

Clive
Perhaps we should start a forum on PC-Pals for community groups to encourage members to produce community web sites, that way we could be even more helpful to our members and the community and would be able to pass on information on gaining financial support from the various funding agencies, also it will give each other a sense of what life is like in the areas we live in, I am certain that life in Burnley Wood is vastly different to life in a small country village, although the problems can be the same e.g. crime, drugs, education, health and transport the answers will probably be immensely different and complex

If you want to see my area as it was a couple of years ago here is a site I made earlier lol
http://www.brianfenn.com just click on Burnley Wood

Thanks

Good idea Brian.   ;D  We have managed to obtain a lot of money for our village from various sources too.  I think the total is in the region of £2 million.  You have done really well for Burnleywood.

Dave, we are placing our lights as close to Heaven as we can reach.  Hopefully that will stop the vandals.   ;D

Fife council spent a lot on the 2 main villages around Dunfermline but it's pretty usless what they do. So far in my village they put a pelican crossing in and about 5 new street lights... Between the 2 villages they have relayed the road last year and are now digging it up and making it thinner. In the other village they made the drainage better as well. Ther no accidents on the road since I moved here (9 years), The lighting  is fine in our village and the reason they made better drainage was because a bit of road flooded for 3 days a year by about 2 - 3 inches. I'm not sure they know HOW to spend money  :-\

@Robotochan
Thats the whole idea of a community action group, often councils have funds but dont know what local residents want, we wanted a secure childrens play area in Burnley Wood and because we are now a community group we can access funds that are not available to the council to build what we need
