I might say that there is a problem dumping memory out onto the harddisk then.
Have you noticed that HDD access seems to be slow(er than normal)?

Bit of a strange one...  :-\

Hmm, i have noticed that the hard-drive seems to be slightly slower, not much tho  ;)

I thought thats maybe what its doing, but i get no messages so i cant be sure.

Update

The tool from hookstar works a treat, or at least i think it has (i closed some of the background apps before trying it, so i dont know if it was definitely me or the program that shut it down quicker). Anyway it shut down very fast and i think the problem may be solved.

Well, it seems that mine is actually quite quick compared to some others, but I'll certainly have a look at that setting.  I think I've played with these before though, following tips from a PC magazine.

One of the problems with XP is that the PC writes back to the hard drive at shutdown and some times refuses to close programs.  

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\"

"PowerdownAfterShutdown"

Change numerical value from "0" to "1"

This edit automatically ends tasks and timeouts that prevent programs from shutting down and clears the Paging File on Exit

Remember!!!  Make a backup of the registry before you make any changes and I would also advise creating a new System Restore Point before any changes.

**UPDATE**

Finally found out thats its the Logitech software that is causing my PC to take an age to shut down.

According to Logitech's support section:

"Current versions of iTouch software fail to unload while the system is shutting down, causing longer shut down times. This issue has been addressed in the next release of software, which is expected to be available shortly. Please check this document or the download page later for an update to the software. "

The page is however dated 4-3-2003, so im not hoping for the new release any time soon. Guess ill just have to put up with it for now.

Does this "Fix" from Lobo not address that issue and help it at all BB  ???
