Lobo I phoned TINY today again and they told me to the word exactly the same. They also told me that the simplest way to load up ME eould be to borrow a copy of ME and use the product key given to me by TINY, which I seem tyo have misplaced :-[
I'll never buy a packaged computer ever again.

I've loaded up xp as an upgrade to 98 on my C drive and all went swimmingly. Now I only need to sort out my sound and internet connections.

Looks like I'll be picking your (pc-pals) brains for a while yet.

I said exactly the same arthub, after I bought a Compaq, little upgradability, basically old hat components by the time I bought it. And unable to transfer software from the Compaq installation disks if you bought another PC. Not really knocking em  ::) just not the kind of kit for someone like me  ::)

That's how I ended up here, when I realised even Simon could build his own.... I thought  ;D ;) Now I've got a full set of OS/programs able to transfer to a PC of my choice, and a home built PC with upgradeability built in.

OK not every thing goes to plan on occasion, but it's all grist to the mill, a learning curve that makes you wiser than you were the day before. Even though your PC may not quiet work as you want it to today, you know with a little help from your friends here at PC-Pals it will do eventually. Then you get the bug for tinkering, and along comes prob number..... all go fun  ;D but the bottom line is your gaining knowlage all the time.

If you can find out which soud card is installed and the modem post the name/number here and we will find the drivers for you

Arthur, you might find this useful:

Q.  I lost my CD Key (Product Key) for Windows 9X/Me/2000.  How can I find it?

A.  When Windows is installed, the Setup program requires that you type in a 25-character Product Key that is on the back of the CD (jewel) case or on a certificate on the cover of the Gettting Started/User Manual.  During the Windows installation the Product Key is stored in the Windows Registry.  You can find it on your computer by clicking Start, Run, and entering regedit.  Click the plus signs to expand the branches in the Registry until you reach:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version

Scroll the right pane until you find ProductKey.

Yup that's the one Tony :lol:


Of course, for later versions of Windows 98 and above the product key is actually a 20-digit  Alphnumeric code (e.g. ABC56-FG5GH-GH67F-SD43S-SKS9L). I suppose there is a program available somewhere on the 'Net that will translate that ProductID to the 20-Digit CD code ...

That's a very nice link. Thank you Lobo. But it gives only Windows and Office codes. Is there any other way to find other products codes?  ::)  Or perhaps I'm dreaming a little?  :-\

   What Simon and Tony mentioned was the way to find the product number not the code (or perhaps I didn't well understand). What I'll be happy to find is the code.  :-*
