When I log on to Windows XP a folder opens automatically "system32". How do I stop this?

I find that not switching my PC on can prevent this kind of problem, but I'm sure someone more technically-minded than myself will be along to help you very shortly.

Have a look at this from the Microsoft Knowledge Base, but before you go delving into the registry, try running a scan for spyware, with Ad Aware, and / or Spybot, which may do the job for you.  If it doesn't work the first time, try running them in Safe Mode, with System Restore temporarily disabled.

go to your start menu/ run/ and type msconfig and find the startup tab

look for anything that might be suspicious or say something about opening your system32 folder. (it would be prudent to show us the list of stuff thats schedualed to run when your machines starts) just in case your not fimilar with what should run and what shouldn't.

many people after being on the internet for just a couple of months clutter their startup menu up with meaningless task that slow down the machine on startup and just cause an overall annoyance.
