Is my keyboard knackered?
« on: April 23, 2004, 13:03 »
Is this the right place for this?

Anyway a silly question but I just thought I'd ask.  :-[

My scroll lock suddenly started flashing and when I go into certain websites I can't type cos it brings up these squares ?!!  I took off the button to see if something was in there stopping me from turning it off but its clean.

I restarted the puter and it was fine for 30mins and now its flashing again?!

What do you think guys?  Another new keyboard ?

Is it a USB one or a PS2 one Michelle ?
Have you tried rebooting to see if that cures it ?

Moving this to the Hardware section :doggie:

USB or PS2 erm ...... god knows, is that the socket?

Is USB the flat plug cos if so its not that one!

 :-[

(PS2 plays games on the TV!!)

Yeah I rebooted and it was okay for a while but came on again, I've done my standard checks and tests on it today, scandisc and defrag and it seems okay still now.

How odd is that.

PS2 are the round plugs usually found on Mice and Keyboards Michelle, USB are the thin rectangular ones  ;)

If it happens again you may have to ask Simon, as hes our resident keyboard expert  ;D ;D ;D

USB keyboards tend to get more driver related problems and often come with software that needs to be installed and can sometimes  sort their problems out by reinstalling the software.
Usually PS2 ones dont need any extra software installing unless its one of the newer type with different features, even then the basic keyboard works without the additional software  :)

ah I see, thank you sandra.

I did have software with this but I didn't use it, as you say it worked without it.

Still okay  ;D

I had a thought!!!!!! I know, sit down if you aren't already!!

I wondered if it might just be happening on the one website, so I went to that website. Isketch.net, and guess what happened, as soon as I tried to type, the scroll lock came on and I couldn't type.

Any idea's ???????  Thats just too weird!

Its still flashing now.

I've tried it with both Moz and IE and it happens each time, its really very odd!!
