Topic: LimeWire anyone?

I've found LimeWire on a PC mag cover disc.  Has anyone ever used this?  I downloaded it, and there was loads of spyware bundled in with it, but I think I've got rid of all that.

I was looking for something as an alternative to WinMX, which I am finding is getting slower, and it's getting harder to find anything without a 3 day queue!

I tried LimeWire a long time ago, have used Grokster which is essentially KaZaA with a different skin. I now use KaZaA Lite, no spyware   and there are generally no queues  8), well not for the music I like... so you should be ok too Simon

Are you on KazaaLite v2 now, Bat?  I went to upgrade but got bombarded with a ton of invasive ActiveX applets.  After that, it was WinMX for me -- painful as it is.

I think its v2.01, an updated version, and I've not had any ActiveX barrage

Well, I'm going to keep checking Spybot for any intrusions, as there was a s**tload of stuff that appeared on my desktop with LimeWire, but no extra programs as far as I can see.  I think they were just links to casinos etc, and LimeWire shopping sites, which have been blitzed from my desktop!!   >

Cheers guys.  I must have tried to d/l KL2 on a couple of bad days.  I'll give it another go tomorrow and then give WinMX the heave-ho.

Rodders, I think I downloaded it from Download.com, and never had problems with them in the past

WinMX seems to be very poor at the moment and I can't get as much as a sniff of anything I want.

I'm just downloading KazaaLite from HERE as we speak.   >

When you run it, make sure you follow the instructions in the readme file, as there is a little process to follow, moving files about.

And when you run AdAware / SpyBot make sure you don't delete the 'dummy' CyDoor file that is harmless, SpyBot recognised it as an inert file on my system and ignored it, so you should be ok

Winmx coudnt find a prog I wanted last night but that was the first thing its let me down with in almost 12 months.All music has been available almost instantly,the films can be a bit hit and miss at times but not usually too big a problem

Hiya frog-snogger!  Does it matter how much stuff is in your 'shared files' dir?  It makes a difference with KaZaA -- is it the same with WinMX then, Sandra?
