Topic: M$ Updates

I seemed to have lost the ability to have the updates done Automaticaly on my PC even though the update box is ticked.

The last 5 updates I have had to do manually, if anybody has got any ideas? it would be much appreciated..thanks.

Me too, Hook.  I wonder if Sygate is blocking it?  Anyone know what the Windows Update .exe is called?  Maybe it needs to be specifically allowed?

Happened before I had Sigate Simon.. I think the update file has been corrupted

Have a look at this http://www.amset.info/windows/auto-updates.asp will try that tomorrow when No beers have passed my lips lol.

I have checked my services.msc list, which shows it as running, and there seems to be no problem looking at the System Properties > Automatic Updates tab.  I checked Windows Update on Wednesday or Thursday this week, and, like you, found 5 Critical Updates, but I didn't think to check the dates they were issued.  It's a shame it's not something which can be tested with some sort of 'dummy' update - is it?

Curiously, it's not listed in the Sygate Applications List, which indicates it hasn't even asked for permission, and I've had Sygate installed for several weeks now.

Microsoft are trying up a new version of the windows update software at the moment - may be related. I noticed the other day when it installed and ran the new downloader.

Dack.. what new down loader    I looked in my last updates and no new downloader, or have I missed something?

XP Service Pack 2 has a new Windows Update version. V5 I think

Got an AUTO UPDATE tonight  ... yipeee all back to normal  8)

Here is what I did to recify the problem.

Open "Computer Management" from within Administrative Tools in Control Panel.
Expand the Services and Applications branch.
In the list of services, find "Automatic updates".
Right click on it and choose "restart". If this option isn't available, choose "Stop" and then once the service has been stopped, right click again and choose "Start".
