Never heard of any that actually claim to boost the memory, I have seen some that release the memory, as some applications dont always fully release the memory they have used, do you mean one of those programs

yes that is what i mean, i say booster because thats what some of them are called, i am currently using 'alto memory booster.' it's function is as you say to release the memory, but i am not impressed with it, as i still have problems, and with a gig of ram i shouldn't.

Rather than trying third party memory tweakers, have you thought about optimising your Virtual Memory settings?  You may find you don't actually need anything else if these are set correctly.  

There is a program called Tweak All 3, which has a 'Free Memory' feature, among other useful toys, which is free and can be downloaded from here.

on the note of virtual memory, i do not have a large primary hard drive, it is only 3GB. i have 2 large secondary drives, 80GB and 120GB. i usually have my swap file placed on one of the larger drives, but for some reason they are reading as a negative amount of free memory, only in the virtual memory settings though. i have ran several scans on these drives using norton systemworks 2004, yet i only ever find minor problems, does anyone know how i can fix the problem?

Well, I know you can manually adjust the virtual memory settings, but hopefully one of our more technical people will be able to point you in the right direction for your particular set up.
