Windows 2000 won't boot
« on: January 29, 2005, 20:22 »
Hi,newbie here could someone please help..???I wanted to d/l adaware and update Windows. My sister was logged in as a administrator and the computer was on.I did not have her password so I set the other users as administrator and I changed all the passwords.( I did this because i would need to reboot).I downloaded adaware and adaware would not install automaticly so I looked for the download in the search bar/start menu. All of a sudden I get a windows is preparing to install and the computer reboots on its own.Upon loading windows it stays in prepare security policy for 20 minutes.I am able to start in safe mode ok.What should I do next.I would not be surprised if she has a virus
Thanks

I think with your last post that its trying to boot off a disabled floppy drive.
Try going into bios and setting it to boot from the hard drive as the first device.
As far as the other things go I cant really think what to suggest other than if you are running XP to try Start/Run and tpe sfc /scannow and see if it will repair itself  ???

I think 2K has a system file checker in too so you could try what I suggested when I thought that you were using XP.

Start/Run and tpe sfc /scannow and see if it will repair itself.
The command maybe sfc.exe in 2k if the first one doesnt do anything, it should work in safe mode I think  :)
