i have installed z.a but now i am unable to connect to yahoo or hotmail.
message reads :-browser settings preventing redirection to new url.
i imagine z.a. has changed something.any help appreciated.i have windows98se.

Not too familiar with ZA myself, but until someone comes alone who is, I would suggest looking through the settings to see if you can find where you can allow specific websites, and put those two in.

I experienced exactly the same problems myself. If I remember correctly, you can lower the security settings in ZA and that will allow access you everything Yahoo!

thanks for your reply.my security settings are set as low as possible,lowest setting turns firewall off.

I've found this on the Zone Alarm forum which may be of use to you cabra:

Go to your ZASS Privacy panel and click on the Site List tab. Locate the Yahoo entry, right click on it, then select 'options'. Now go through all 3 tabs, uncheck everything checked, and click 'apply' as you go through. Next clean your cache and try the Yahoo site again.

Of course, you could uninstall your current version of Zone Alarm and then go to http://www.oldversion.com and get Zone Alarm version 2. This is circa 1999, the era before security software companies took over YOUR computer and started to determine what you can and cannot run on YOUR computer.

i am unable to locate yahoo listed anywhere in z.a.i tried the other suggestion and removed it via add/remove. and tried my e-mail again with no success. i installed version2.6 but i still am unable to connect to yahoo or hotmail.same error message appears

I presume that if you temporarily disable ZA that you can access your mail without any problem? If so, you could always remove ZA and install a different firewall such as sygate. I just use my router firewall with the Windows one these days.

What are your Cookie settings? To access both Yahoo and Hotmail you have to allow all Cookies, including third party ones.

my cookie setting is defaulted to medium.if i uninsall z.a i still cannot access e-mail,yet all was well before,cookie setting was always as it is.
if i ever get the problem fixed i think i will ditch z.a as has been suggested.

I think Win 98 se has system restore if I'm not mistaken. Why don't you try and restore to before you installed ZA to see if that solves the problem?

No, it doesn't Clive. Not as such, anyway, although I think there's a command where you can revert to a backup registry. That might not really help though, as it's probably the internet settings which need repairing. There's a post on this somewhere, which I'll try to find.... I'll be back!

OK to restore IE to it's default settings (I know this works on IE6, but not sure about earlier versions, for the Start > Run commands, so use those at your own risk):-

1) Launch IE, go to Tools then Internet Options.

2) On the General tab (which it launches to) delete cookies and temporary
internet files, including all offline content.

3) Go to Advanced tab, lower right, click on restore defaults and click Apply.

4) Go to Programs tab, middle left, click on reset web setting, (recommend
you deselect reset homepage).

5) Go to Privacy tab (if present), if Default Levels button is active click it.

6) Go to Security tab and for each zone set levels to Default Levels if said
button is active, click OK.

If that doesn't work, then do all of the following, clicking OK after each:-

Start > Run > regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 Msjava.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 Browseui.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Not recommended that you use the Internet without a firewall, so if you decide to get rid of ZA, make sure you get something else, like Sygate (link below), as Clive suggested.

i have run through the list of dll and all was o.k. except the shell32.dll.
message came up:-shell32.dll was oaded but the dll register server entry point was not found .dll register server may not be exported, or a corrupt version of shell32.dll may be in memory. consider using pview to detect and remove it.
i have done no more as i don't know what pview is or how to find the corrupt file if it is so.
