Strange cookie advice...
« on: October 31, 2005, 18:44 »
I have been asked by a friend, why he can't access a particular part of a website.  This is a football league website, and the inaccessible url is:-

http://full-time.thefa.com/gen/Index.do?league=4160018

The website advises to:-

Quote
Check that the cookies folder is not write protected:

Windows: 1. Open Windows Explorer and go to the \Windows drive. 2. Right-click on the Cookies folder and select Properties from the list. 3. Check that the Read Only, System, and Hidden options are NOT selected.

I have never heard of this before, and find it strange that this one particular website might require this procedure, particularly when other parts of the site are accessible.
Could someone please try the url, and let me know if you can access the page?  You should see a page of football league results - if you just get a search page, you are receiving the same error I am.

Thanks, Sam.  I think there must be an error on the website.

It's working fine for me!  It's a FA league search site for league secretaries and requires registration.

Yes, the link works, but it's supposed to go to the Sussex County Youth League, not to the search page.

It definitely looks like a site error to me, as I have tried it on Opera, Firefox and even Internet Explorer which all handle Cookies differently and yet they all go to the search page.

It doesn't look like a Cookie problem to me.

Having said that, if you register and login (which I won't be doing) where does it take you?

The actual link is supposed to go to Sussex County Youth League, but instead, goes to the index, as we have found.  However, if you select 'S' from the index, then click on any other team apart from Sussex County, you get the desired page, so this HAS to be a site problem.

Indeed.  But these people who run websites never believe there's anything wrong with them!
