I have the March issue, I presume this is the one you are referring to?

April 2003. I have a subscription so maybe it's not in the shops yet ;)

I'm not gloating  :heehee: but my BB connection is working fine now ... since ditching the Alcatel modem, and using the router (Vigor 2600), and sorting out a little id problem with Pipex, and I have to say their support has been really good. Only had to wait max of 2mins in queue.

Now to finish the networking of the other PCs .. in at the deep end

What are the min specs for the alcatel modem Bat?
I was thinking it may help Whiskas out if it will install on her 6x86 224 PC.
She could buy that off you a lot cheaper than getting a new PC  :-*
I am assuming its the modem that requires a faster cpu and not adsl itself?

I need a quick update on ADSL routers ... I need to get a new one for my new house, I like the Vigor 2600 one I've been using, although I'm leaving that one with my parents. As I've been out of techie action for a little while now, can anyone suggest a good router (I need it to have 4 ports, firewall and ADSL modem), also I'd like to know if there is a much simpler (and much cheaper) ADSL router anyone can recommend for my girlfriend (only 2 PCs to be sharing the ADSL connection but in different rooms)

Thanks for your help :)

Hi,

I use the Netgear DG824M wireless router. Which has 4 ports on the back, an ADSL modem and wireless stuff (Technical eh!).

It is about £160 I think and it works great.

Good luck with your search.

DJ  ;)

Why are you in separate rooms to your GF Bat?  You should start as you mean to go on.   :heehee:

Can't fault the Netgear stuff Bat ;) Good quality and reasonably priced. I've installed a lot of their kit previously and none of it has ever let me down :)

Nice to see you back BTW - even if it is a brief visit :D 8)
