I've just done a system restore, uninstalled spyware doctor but hasn't cured the problem

So I'm going to throw the disc in again to format and recovery to factory settings and I'm not going to reinstall spyware doctor till they get back to me.

I've restored PC to factory settings again, everything was working ok i.e the cams, flash banners on here. I haven't installed Spyware Doctor, just installed Nod32 and Zone Alarm Pro and now I can't view cams, banners etc again arghhhhhhhh :twisted: everything worked fine earlier on with these both installed...so why not now?
I've un/reinstalled the macromedia flash player etc but still the same

and wait till you hear this one.................all my program set ups that weren't in compressed folders have vanished off my Hardrive2go (usb external HD) all I can see are the compressed ones and text files that where in the programs folders?

?? My other external HD is fine, everything still there.

OMG what is going on

I know I haven't had any virus's as I have my Nod32 running at all times, keep it updated, always running in depth scans, and I never run any suspicious files or accept or open any of those virus emails *shaking head*

What's a girl to do :?:

just formatted/restored pc yet again (3rd time lucky) :twisted: to factory settings and soon as I installed Nod32 the cams went off. Haven't installed Zone Alarm Pro yet.
So after me blaming Spyware Doctor as the culprit it looks very much like it's Nod 32 :?
So where in the settings is it causing all this fuss?

Haven't checked my Hardrive2go yet. I sure hope all my set up programs are back *praying out loud*

Why don't you try a different antivirus program such as Avast. It's a free download so you have nothing to lose.

Hi Clive, I prefer Nod32 it's the best AV out there

Also I bought it so I'm not throwing my money away *shaking head*

I just need help in the settings to see what's blocking these cams. I can't understand because I've used Nod32 for a long time and I used to be able to view the cams with no problems?!
Also the flash banners on here, I'm still having the same problem one min they're here, then they're not, and I just see the HTML for them :?

Macromedia Flash, Java etc etc etc are all installed properly. There's no more I can do. I've formatted/restored to factory default now 3 times :roll:

Assuming you are using Windows XP SP2, have you still got the Windows Firewall enabled? It might just be conflicting with something and blocking your cams. If Nod32 has also got ad blockers, this may well be blocking the Flash content on here, as well as other banners. Suggest you load your normal firewall, if you are still going to use ZA, and disable Windows Firewall to see if that helps.

I didn't mean for you to throw your Nod32 away Sweetbabe. I just thought you could use Avast (or similar) as temporary protection until you manage to solve the Nod problem. As far as the dreadful flash banners go, I only see them when I'm logged in. All I see otherwise is HTML code. :grin:

At last!!! after 3 formats, losing all my set ups for programs ..... still want to know how they have vanished off my hard drive :?: :? it's a good job i had most of them backed up (except the stuff from the last few weeks), but that's not the case .... where did it all go? Well anyway it is Nod32 stopping the cams and by disabling Imon I can view them. I'm waiting on some feedback from Nod32 to see what's going on in the settings.

So now I can put my Spyware Doctor back on, but lets hope when it does the immuninzing .. it doesn't put me back to square one *fingers crossed* otherwise I'll have my head wrecked again

even though I haven't got this Nod32 sorted yet!!

Where did all that stuff vanish off my hardrive

Yes Simon I'm running XPSP2 and have XP firewall disabled as I've reinstalled my ZA

Well I'll let you know what Nod32 come back with, in the meantime thanks to everyone for the help

I need a break away from this pc !! I've been at this problem for over a week now...day in day out lol

You may be able to recover the lost data if you run a recovery program Sweetbabe.

The best one that has worked for me and a few other people that I know, even after formatting, is one called File Scavenger, its only small.

Dont use that drive if you can avoid it until you have tried to recover from it though.
The more stuff that is written to a drive then the more danger there is of making the data unrecoverable or of corrupting it

You will probably be able to find it if you look in the right place :wink:

I just ran that program but it doesn't find those files :?

I don't know if this is going to sound daft but is there anyway windows is not seeing them? are they just hiding? there's about 6 gig or more, they can't have just vanished :?
What I haven't done yet is try the drive in another usb port, so this is what I'm going to do right now. At the moment it's in the top bay thingy of my MD8800, which is especially for the hardrive2go....which I think you'll already know that Sandra as that's where I met you on the Medion forum

If still the same I'm going to take the drive to my BF's tomorrow and see if any of his PC's reconizes them.

Just tried in another USB port and no sign of them, they still playing hide n seek :?
The folder size says 3.25gb but really it should be about 12gb. I can't even say what type of files have gone missing because it's a mixture, but as I've already mentioned all the ones in compressed/zipped folders are still there :? and the others that have gone missing have left behind the text, help files etc but the actual set ups .... have gone :?

After this post I'm going to zip up, shut pc OFF, get myself in bed to watch the half ton man :shock: on CH4 at 9pm, catch up with Coronation Street & Eastenders and try my best to forget about pc problems for the night lol

But before I go I've got to tell you this.... I've just highlighted 'all' folders on this usb hardrive2go and all adds up 95gb, yet in 'my computer' free space 131gb total size 232gb.. so if I've added that up correctly (in my head) there's about 6gb in hiding :?
95gb + 131gb = 126gb ............ oh I'm getting myself all confused here lol Half a ton man just starting....catch ya later

A 250 gig rarely shows as much over around 235 once its been formatted.

A gig is 1024 mbs but drive manufacturers seem to work on 1000mb = 1 gig, then you lose a few gig by formatting too

Did you try running the program from the floppy or a usb flash drive and recover from your formatted drive to the external usb ?
