USB flash Key (pen)
« on: March 19, 2006, 13:38 »
Okay - My sons Usb 256mg "easy disk" Key has stopped working - no computer even picks it up, so its not being read.

I take it this is now bin fodder, but I wondered if you guys might know a way of forcing it to work or maybe retrieving the files on there, cos obviously all of his work has not been saved to the computer! argh!

6 months old it is but he lost the lid and I think he's just damaged it, I don't think its faulty.

Any Idea's please?

He hasn't accidentally locked it, has he, Michelle?  On mine, the lock is a tiny switch on the side, so tiny that you need a pin to turn it on or off.

:(

That recently happened to me as well... I happen to like working with electronics, so i took the thing apart. I somehow managed to get my computer to recognize it again by reversing the wires or something (don't ask how or why it worked) and quickly backed up all the data.

The computer seemed to recognize it every once in awhile when i plugged the usb drive in, so the only thing i can really suggest is trying to plug it in, then if the comp. doesn't recognize it remove it... wait a minute or two and try again... seems to work some of the time, but not always

sorry i can't help more than that... flash drives wear out pretty quickly if you use them often... I had only had mine for less than a year i think...
l33t h@x0r... sort of...

I know this may sound noobish, but have you tried banging it on stuff? Its the fool proof last resort.

I had one go out on me at work. Isn''t much a person can do if they just quit on you. They are similar to playstation memory cards. They're designed to wear out after awhile.
