Cannot access websites
« on: November 09, 2002, 13:09 »
For some reason I can no longer access certain Yahoo websites which are on my favourites list.  Most of Yahoo is readily available, but I am getting "Page not Found" on the ones I really need.

I always give in to temptation to start fiddling with things if I can't get a web page, but 99% of the time, it's just a temporary fault with the website, so I'm slowly learning to leave well alone and try again later.

Perhaps the pages have moved, Clive?  Maybe you could find them via the Yahoo menus?

I know that the websites are there as I just went up to my local library. I came back and I can't access them via the Yahoo menus either.  It's the same with both machines on my network.  Weird or what?

It looks like the site is down Clive as it doesnt work for me either  :-*

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Just as I was hoping for some juicy stuff too  ;)

Second one works but not the link from it Clive  :-*

I am getting closer to the problem.    I just tried it using a 56K modem and it works perfectly ok.  It just wont work with ADSL.  How can that be?

Maybe a routing problem Clive but I would have thought whether on ADSL or on dial up it would tie up with the same servers at some point  ???
Maybe the plebs on 56K have found a way to put a spanner in the works for the lucky few of us on BB  ;)

The second one, yes, and the link to the Newsey bit, but the first one I just get "The requested URL /search/diy/fc/astronomy/ was not found on this server."  That would indicate to me that it's been removed.

Maybe the first url was just the result of a "not found" page so we should ignore that one.  I wonder if it's anything to do with the firewall built into the router?

I couldn't access Yahoo Messemger either until I changed the preferences to "Firewall No proxies"

Any chance of editing that post above, Clive, to get this page back to it's normal size?   :)
