Microsoft has warned people about another unpatched security hole, which could let hackers take control of an affected computer.

The vulnerability, affects ActiveX control, and can affect users of Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, on Windows XP Service Pack 1, and on Windows XP Service Pack 2.

ActiveX is a technology that lets programs from other software vendors and multimedia files be delivered over webpages.

Microsoft said: ?Upon completion of this investigation, Microsoft will take the appropriate action to help protect our customers. A security update will be released through our monthly release process or an out-of-cycle security update will be provided, depending on customer needs.?

Security company Symantec has advised web users to not accept or execute files sent from untrusted or unknown sources.
