Depends what she wants to spend, Lona - would THIS be any good as a starting point?

Looks good Simon. I have heard you recommend this company before. I don't know if she intends to spend £700 but have sent the page to her by e-mail. If you come across any bargains let me know.

Lona, the only recommendation I can make to you regarding notebooks is to go for a quality brand.

In our shop, we get a lot of notebooks for repair and very often we cannot get the parts for the less well known brands. We hardly ever get problems getting parts for machines from the likes of Toshiba, Sony and Compaq as they tend to keep then in stock for a relatively long time.

Of course, the only drawback of buying the quality brands is the price. However Toshiba and Compaq appear to have brought their prices down quite a bit lately.

You would have to ring them to ask what specification and price as they dont list them on the site. They are only 5 minutes away from me so I could check it out if she was interested in a specific one  :-*

Reconditioned sounds good, Sandra and by what Adept says perhaps a brand name would be better. I will talk to my daughter and see what she says and if you are close to them, perhaps you could have a look for her. You would have a better idea if it was a genuine bargain as she is not all that computer literate. :)
