Oh that's exceptionally useful MB.  I've stickified it to stop it getting lost.

Just clone C drive to another partition or an external drive once a week, the ultimate protection, if anything goes wrong its just a simple restore. :)

Isn't that what System Restore is supposed to do?  :dunno:  Also, how long does it take to clone, say, a 250Mb drive?  I recently transferred 100Gb of music files from my internal drive, to an external, via USB, and it took literally hours.   I don't think I would want to make a weekly task of something like that.

Cloning a drive compresses it to a small image file and shouldnt take long Simon.

Any suggestions as to which programs to use?  I would want to steer clear of Norton products, as I once installed Norton Ghost, and could never get rid of it again.

I'm not a big fan of Norton either, but i use "Norton Ghost 2003", it's been very reliable and easy to use. I only use C drive for operating system and programs, so cloning only
takes about 15 minutes.

Drive (or Disc) Image, used to be made by Powerquest but I think Norton took it over.
I think Acronis do one as well.
