I have been following (well,
reading) the thread, and there's nothing I can add that won't cock things up even more. The only thing I would possibly do, if it were me, would be to go back to basics. Check that all the connections are in the right order, and that all the drive jumpers are set correctly (cable select usually does it for me, but not sure if it's the same in SATA drives). Get back to a place where everything is working correctly, and then you should be able to pinpoint the problem.
