Hi Sam,
do you mean do I setup a network between the two computers from the main comp? the answer is yes

Do you have software firewalls on either / both, that could be blocking the connection?

might be a good idea, though it would be interesting to see if you can see any shared folders.... as it could just be the internet part. Can you connect at all to the other computer?

Hi Sam,
Right I have had router, modem checked, and Laptop, it is a problem with my Desktop computer, it wont talk to the laptop.
I am in the process of re-installing it with a back-up Acer say's that should solve the Software problem (they think it is software that is causing this problem) we will see?
Will keep you upto date with a result HOPEFULLY ! Fingers crossed

so do you get any network activity? I'm not sure I understand how you have it setup... so your computer is acting as a router? i.e. your desktop connects to the internet and it shares the network over a wireless adapter?

is your router the wireless transmitter or the desktop.. sorry I just like to make sure I know what is going on  - wouldnt want to waste your time by suggesting completely wrong things.

If its not off the router and just between the two machines then: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx might be of some help.

Hi Sam,
right Iv found out what the problem is, and I thought I had cured it.
My IP address will work from the laptop to my desk top computer, but not the other way around, so I ipconfig and then Ping both Ip addresses (laptop and Desk top Comp) and then my laptop talks to my Desktop and then I can transfer files from one to the other, but then it stops working again and I have to do all the above again, dont know why it wont stay steady any ideas, im just feed up of phoning tech support
