Topic: MSOCache File What Is It?

Can anyone please tell me what a MSOCache file is? 
It seems to be getting bigger and has lots of CAB zipped files in it and many other files Im thinking it has something to do with Windows but not sure

It's the installation files for Microsoft Office 2003, Kaz.  It saves you having to insert the CD each time you want to make changes to the program.

do you know I was to tiered last night my brain just wouldn't function I woke up this morning and thought I know what the MSO is Microsoft Office! anyway I'm trying to have a spring clean with my computer it's full I was thinking of putting a new hard drive in and Sandra so helpfully found what kind of hard drive I have, but I have changed my mind looking at the right up on it I think I will just get an another external hard drive and put all my program's on there does that sound ok?

I think it would be better to put all your data (pics, music, vids, etc) on the external drive, and leave your programs where they are, otherwise you will have to reinstall everything.  You can't just 'move' programs.

Thats what  have done already! and still my hard drive is full Im trying to move stuff off my hard drive stuff that  I dont use that often, but my music,movies,pics are always on an external hard drive

Oh and I think Iv forgotten to say although I have an 80g hard drive its in 2 partitions C drive 40gig  D drive 40gig

I wouldn't like to advise you that most programs will run on an external drive, or that it's a particularly good idea.  Some programs may require to be on the same drive as Windows, or if the external drive became disconnected while programs were running, this may also cause problems.  You could probably get away with it with programs like Firefox, or a non-Windows mail client, such as Thunderbird, and games would probably be OK too, but I would be cautious with anything essential, Kaz.

I thought Id put the prog that I dont use that much on the external drive, and I understand what you are saying to me and I could put some prog on my D drive

If you have around 40 gig on your C drive that should be plenty for XP and all the programs that you want to run.
You need to make sure that you save everything such as IM received files, pictures, vids, music and documents eleswhere either to an external hard drive, D or to DVD.

thanks for the input,but I do keep all my pics,music,movies on an external hard drive, all I have on my C drive are programmes  I keep my D drive for backing upto, with some programmes running from the D drive

You must have a hell of a lot of programs to have filled up a 40Gb partition on your main drive, if I've understood correctly.  Perhaps it's just a question of thinning out what you no longer use?  I know this is what you've been saying, but wouldn't it be better to de-clutter, rather than just relocating it? 

When I last formatted and re-installed Windows, I had hundreds of programs in my Start Menu and Quick Launch bar, but now I just have what I need, and I certainly haven't missed the rest.

Do you think that might be what taking up unnecessary space I have gone into add and remove prog and gone down all my programmes wedded out what I don't need or don't use that often I have a very good reg cleaner tune up utilliites 2007 so that's set up to get ride of the crap etc.  I also have got ride of all my temp files, but I must admit I do have some big prog on my computer.

I have just picked up a good little tip today and Iv tried it on my computers and it works, keep an eye out In Anti Virus I will just have to do a search to see if its already here f not Ill upload it to Tip, Tricks,tweaks it's quite good

Well, the MSOffice files will take up quite a bit of space.  It says in that link I posted above, how to remove them, I think.  You don't really need them to be there, as long as you have your Office 2003 CD.

Iv got office 2007 will it be the same? I cant see a link Simon for removing them

Umm.... er...  dunno.     It just said MSOCache was Office 2003, but there might be some other links on that page.
