Blue Screen, possible GC drivers?
« on: December 23, 2007, 13:22 »
This is about the fourth time this has happened, I get the blue screen and memory dump and it says something about enough disk space or video/graphics card drivers.

Michael looked at it a few days ago when it happened and said I need to update my drivers? He was going to send me the link, but we both forgot.

I have never updated the drivers on this computer (medion 8383).

I have just downloaded the latest drivers from the Medion site and AVG has detected a Trojan horse Agent.MCH in the gknvidgfx_w2kxp.exe file.

So I guess I shouldn't open this, but what should I do with it, vault? delete?   :dunno:

It might be worth trying to do an online scan of the file, MB, in case it's a false positive.

If the drivers have been downloaded from the genuine Medion site, then I would suggest a false positive from AVG, MB.

I have just downloaded the driver file from Driver Guide, and Bit Defender says it's clean.

If you like, PM me an email address and I'll send you this one, or alternatively, give me the link to the the one you downloaded and I'll test it for you.  :)

If the driver does not fix it check that the fan on the video card is working ok, it could be a heat related issue.

Good thinking gmax, I know it's due for a good clean out.  :D

There probably is a lot of dust and cat fur on it.

Simon, I downloaded it from the link you sent me, but it wouldn't install.  :dunno:

And I installed their Driver Toolkit and according to that, the video card drivers were up to date, which they obviously weren't.  :dunno:

Michael used the Nvidia site and we finally installed the new drivers.  So we finally got there.

Well it was until i turned it on today, blue screen again, this time it was the bios, then it started making strange noises.

Michael opened it up and took out the memory sticks, one was dead. So I'm back to just 512mb.  :(

And could well increase in cost in the New Year, so probably a good time to buy.

Oh well ram is cheap at the moment :)

Have any suggestions on where are the best prices?  :dunno:

The mainboard provides 4 slots for 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM (Double In-
Line Memory Module) modules and supports the memory size up to 4GB. You can
install DDR400/DDR333 modules on the DDR DIMM slots (DIMM 1~4).
