Looks like something has blown on the main board or the backlight inverter is dead, your electricity supplier should be liable if it went dead with a power cut.
Reading stories like that makes me glad i use an "UPS" unit. Probably not worth repairing with the low price of new ones now.

Hi Jim,

Would it be possible to try the monitor on another machine?

That's probably the only useful diagnostic at this point, Simon. :(

Surge protection is often not enough when there's a big mains spike, as tends to happen with power cuts. I favour conditioning UPSs for that reason.  :( You may be able to claim from Belkin though...

Same thing happened to me a few weeks back.    Belkin - 6 power cuts - Mrs Clive's machine knackered mine clinging on.  I ended up slinging both and getting 2 new ones.

APC, Unitek or Belkin are all good Sam, just go for an inline, or conditioning model, not a backup type. Misco have this 1200VA Belkin for £112, there's an 800VA unit for £98.

Quidco gets you an extra 5% discount.

If you get one don't plug a laser printer into it, they draw too much current, ive been using the same APC UPS for 5 years now. I don't trust those surge protect boards.
You could get an UPS from ebay with dead batteries cheap, then replace the batteries yourself.
