DvD files not being reconised
« on: January 08, 2008, 19:45 »
Help  :)

I back up all my DVD files to an USB external hard drive, on looking at the files in the external hard drive there is nothing attached to them, I have used them before so I know they used to work but I can't remember if I have changed any settings or if some thing else has happened. when I click on any off them I get the message. I wonder if I have lost codecs or some thing.

Have you tried reassociating them by clicking the second button, and then browsing to whatever your DVD player is, Terry?

It's Windows, Terry, you don't need to change anything!   ;D

But seriously, I have no idea, unless the backup did something to the file names.   :dunno:

I usually play my video files of most formats in VLC.

A DVD file structure usually consists of a collection of BUP, INF and VOB.
Its the VOB files that carry the audio and video and can be played individually, directly on a pc by themselves.
The BUP and INF files tell the DVD player in which order to play the VOBs.
This is similar to image files that come as Bin and Cue files.
The data is in the Bin file but the Cue file tells it how to be burned in order to reconstruct the original CD or DVD.
