Shouldnt matter whether its IDE or SATA thats its booting from.
Once you have set the boot priority in the BIOS then it should boot as normal.
The option for F3, F8 on mine or F2 on most other SATA mobos I have seen, is for when you have multiple drives so you can select which drive to boot from without entering the BIOS.
This should only occur though when you have pressed the relevant F key.
I would double check the BIOS and make sure that you have it set to boot from your SATA drive Terry, other than that I cant think why its doing that
