I'm still at a loss as to why, if it's such a good product, they would want to give it away.  :dunno:

Michelle, if you want a back up anti spyware, Windows Defender seems to run along side most other security programs quite happily.

Interesting concept, Rik, but I don't think a well behaved Alf exists, does it?  ;D

It seems fine to me but as I am running Vista I had to get an addon from windows updates before I could install it.
This meant I had to get the dreaded WGA to say that I had a legit version of Vista before it let me download it.
As mines legit, or at least windoze thinks it is :o: there wasnt a problem but others with dodgier versions of Vista may not be able to install it, the full scan took over an hour even when set at its fastest speed.
I am not sure if this is because of the extra spyware and trojan scans its doing over AVG free 7.5 but the full pc scan used to take about 25 minutes    :dunno:

Thats what i noticed changing from AVG to Nod32, AVG is so slow, also all the viruses it missed.
AVG is only popular because its free, it really is a poor product.

is that because vista is hogging the processor?

No Sam, its the same PC and OS that I noticed the difference in the time that it took to run the scan on.
Its an Intel P4 660 3.6ghz  CPU so it acts like a dual core anyway but the PC wasnt doing anything else at the time of the scan.

Sorry to break in here, but I have tried a couple of times to download AVG 8 and the last time it came up with that "can't save this file as it can't read the exe file" or something to that effect. I'm re-trying again, and I'm downloading from File Hippo as I couldn't find it, well the free version, at the AVG site.
