The jury  is still out for me  :P Some people describe it as Norton in disguise ie a resource hog. My avg 7.5 "seems" ok but sooner or later i'm sure the kids will download it by accident so i'll leave it in the lap of the gods  ;D

Sorry to break in here, but I have tried a couple of times to download AVG 8 and the last time it came up with that "can't save this file as it can't read the exe file" or something to that effect. I'm re-trying again, and I'm downloading from File Hippo as I couldn't find it, well the free version, at the AVG site.

Thanks gmax, but I finally finished downloading it, not sure why it kept failing?  :dunno:

So long as 7.5 keeps updating the definitions I'll stick with it.  I have other programs to check for spyware, I don't want or need another.

I have read on other forums that AVG 8 is picking up a lot off warnings, if you have AVG8 installed..have a look in the scan area  :o

After trying numerous times to download the damned thing and finally succeeding, it lasted one day. I deleted it and went back to AVG 7.5, my system is slow enough with out this.  :(

I guess the new version requires more resources to run, as it now seems to incorporate anti-spyware.

Do u use the previous one Cammy ? And if so do you find that one better?

I just tried to install 8 but it said I have ewido and I'd have to delete that before it will install?  Why can't i just have both?  >:(

I got the same message, Michelle.  I have windows defender and I don't want to disable it.

It seems like the anti spyware in avg 8 conflicts with amongst others spyware blaster so i think i'll stick with v 7.5 for the time being  :arsed:

There is a newer version of Spywareblaster (4.0) which appears to work fine with AVG 8.

Someone who actually uses it will hopefully confirm / deny this, JK, but having picked up some bits from Googling, it seems you cannot disable the anti-spyware component of the free version, but you can disable the 'link scanner', which I'm guessing is web traffic scanning.

Well, after almost a decade of AVG, I have dumped it and have installed Avira Antivir Personal Edition.  As I posted previously, I have other programs to keep me free from spyware - I don't want another one.

Why can't things that work brilliantly be left alone?
