Could you not have simply stuck to the old version, Dave?

The old version is no longer supported Simon so the choice is to update or replace.
Another program they ruined was Ad-Aware. After using it for many years I had to get rid of the 2007 version because it was a load of rubbish. I think the 2008 version is coming soon so let's hope they have learned their lesson.

I think that you can select which parts you want to install by ticking custom when installing it.

Well I'm not sure about all the questions/problems but I've not had any trouble with it so far....... I'm probably deleting things I shouldn't

Feedback on AVG 8.
I had AVG 7.5 antivirus and the 7.5 anti-spyware . Did not like the AVG 8 so have changed to Avira AntiVir personal.
The Avira appears to me to be much better than AVG. I am still using AVG 7.5 anti-spyware.

That sounds like a reasonable combination, JK.

I think you can still use AVG 7.5, but you have to do Virus Data downloads manually.
I have also noticed AVG 8 slows down my web experience

Yes, ditch it
I had the same problems and ended up going with Avira but there are a host of others.
