Intel and Yahoo have announced a partnership that aims to bring internet features to TV sets.
Called the Widget Channel, the project could enable TV viewers to send emails and finding information on the web without missing their favourite programs.
"TV will fundamentally change how we talk about, imagine and experience the internet," said Eric Kim of Intel.
"No longer just a passive experience unless the viewer wants it that way, Intel and Yahoo are proposing a way where the TV and internet are as interactive, and seamless, as possible," he continued.
Yahoo already provides 'widgets' for computers that sit on the desktop and perform tasks such as giving you up-to-date weather or financial information, for example.
The Widget Channel will be compatible with common web technologies such as Javascript, Adobe Flash, XML and HTML and be open to developers to create their own widgets for the TV.
"We intend to provide an opportunity for all developers and publishers to create new experiences that can reach millions of TV viewers globally," said Marco Boerries of Yahoo.
However, you'll need to buy a TV set with Intel's 'Canmore' technology built-in to enjoy the new features, which won't be in production until next year.
