x-box,pc and ntl
« on: March 21, 2003, 21:16 »
Afriend of mine has NTL broadband which he connects too with his pc. A flatmate of his has an x-box. He wants to go online with it and to be able to connect to net even if pc is switched off. What do they need? Would they get away with a hub or do they need something else?
Thanks in advance

I'm not on sure ground here Barra, as I don't know a lot about the X-Box  ::)

Assuming that the X-Box has a standard ethernet port then yes, a hub would be required to share the NTL Cable Modem, which is presumably currently connected to the PC via ethernet and not USB.

Sorry to be so vague :-[

Hi Sean. Don't worry about being too vague, I'm no clearer myself. Info has been given over the phone so I havn't seen set up but I'm led to believe it will be ethernet card and cable modem. i also believe sockets on x-box are RJ11's if that helps.

Ethernet is usually on an RJ45 connector Ade.

I'll do some research and get back to you :)

Try disabling your firewall?  That usually works for me Barra.

Try holding down shift while you click the link Ade. It sounds like you have some kind of download manager software loaded :-\

Well, I just tried the link and it started to download the pdf, but after a couple of minutes it stopped and all I got was a blank screen.   :-\
