Ringtone creation
« on: September 04, 2008, 15:47 »
Hi All,
I recently decided to order myself a new mobile with all the bells and whistles on it (Nokia N82) and it got me to thinking about ringtones. Now I didn't want to pay for any so had a look around for some free software.
I've been messing about with this software creating new ringtones from my own .mp3 music tracks.
Am I right in thinking the ringtones I have created are simply cutdown .mp3 files?

If that's the case I already have some music studio software that could simply extract 10 seconds or so of an .mp3 music track and hey presto a ringtone.

I've not managed to test this out yet as I'm still waiting for my mobile to be delivered.

Basically, that's correct, Martin, but they don't have to limited to 10 second snips.  You'll need the Nokia software which comes with the phone, to transfer the ringtones to it, or if you have any you like on your existing phone, you can transfer them over via bluetooth.

For what it's worth, I have an N82, but as a devout SE user, I couldn't get on with it.  Shame I didn't know you were looking for one!  ;)

Hi all,
I can go ahead and make up some rock intros. ie AC/DC - Back in Black
My favourite on my old phone is Emerson, Lake & Palmers  Fanfare for the Common Man.
The Nokia N82 will be my first 3g phone, having had just a basic mobile for years.
I did a lot of reading up on various 3g phones and came to the conclusion that this was one of the best of the bunch. I still haven't received it yet so can't talk from experience.

Thanks for the info. Simon

Doesn't seem that easy to me.  You can't edit clips for one thing, unless I'm missing something.  :dunno:

Oh, and in case this is spam, you've got away with it - just this once!  ;)
