Anybody else experiancing a slow internet today ?
« on: September 08, 2008, 22:35 »
It's been a pig for me today, and the wife says people where she works were complaining also. I'm just wondering if it was a local or national issue. I bet its the BT bit that's the problem.... and its still slow. The times my email software tells me the search session has timed out before its done it...well if I had a fiver [inflation] for each time  :ack:

I'm getting my normal 3.3Mb here in Wales Tony. Perhaps it's a local issue.

END-OF-DAY REPORT: Headline shares closed sharply higher, on a day badly hit by a technical system failure at the London Stock Exchange. Continuous trading only recommenced at 4:00pm, having been suspended at 8:15am this morning.......end quote

The FTSE opens at 8.00 am and closes at 4.30 pm .......  ::)  these are indeed historic times regards the financial markets.....1929 anyone  :o:

BT are currently 'upgrading' some exchanges, Tony, and it's possible that yours may be being worked on.  Sam Knows should be able to tell you your WBC date, and if it's nearing, BT may be doing some preparation works.  Have you noticed any BT vans in the areas recently?  If I'm barking up the wrong tree, come back to us, and I'm sure Rik will have some ideas in the morning, as he's good at this sort of thing.  :)

Yes I dare say it could be that Simon, as the Skipton exchange is struggling. I noticed that when we moved here 3 years ago, and it was registering chock a block way back then.

Could well be congestion then, Tony.  Believe it or not, a lot of ISPs had capacity issues during the Olympics, due to increased usage of the BBC iPlayer, and not to the same extent, but it seems people have got the bug now, and are continuing to use it.  What with that, and BT's delay in upgrading the networks, some areas seem to be struggling.

even the University's connection was slow yesterday, I think there was a problem with the main high speed line for us... I guess since that is UK wide it could have a knock on effect to commercial networks.
