Topic: Getting into space by broomstick

The prospects for the space elevator have been shaken up with a simple prototype using a broomstick.

I thought this is actually a real creative idea. I don't know how practical it is. Personally, I think the actual shaft would need to remain as taunt as possible to reduce stress, but then again i'm no engineer.
