The Science Museum has launched a new online exhibition with 2,500 items of medical interest charting the history of medicine right back to Ancient Greece and Egypt.
http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/broughttolife.aspx tells the story of medicine as it has been practiced for thousands of years.
Items included in the website are taken from the Science Museum as well as the Wellcome collection and include amputation knives, dental drills and silicone implants.
Many of these items are going on display to the public for the first time. According to the exhibition's curator, Robert Bud, only five per cent of the museum's catalogue is on show at any one time.
The exhibition website will allow the museum to showcase the full list of curious items and let visitors see the progress of medicine throughout the ages.
The exhibition is targeted at school and university students as well as anyone with an interest in health and illness through the ages.
