With population growth, I expect there will be even more animals becoming extinct. People will eat what ever is available. Kentucky fried rats, or alley cats, anyone. Or should that be, curried rats, or alley cats....

There is a campaign here to encourage people to eat more Kangaroo meat, which makes sense really. Cattle and sheep aren't really suited to our environment and have caused a lot of damage to country by their grazing.

I usually buy roo meat for Nemo, but a couple of weeks ago I bought some Kanga sausages for Michael. He liked them, so I'm thinking of getting some sausage skins and using the meat I buy for Nemo..........    he'll never know.  :devil:

Never had kangaroos meat.  Presumably, it tastes like a giant rabbit?

I've never tried it either, no surprise there. Nemo prefers beef steak, but that's only ever given as a treat. I'll ask Michael, but he doesn't have a lot to compare it with, as I don't think he's eaten any game, and he does eat steak.

There's some information here;

Kangaroo is one of the healthiest red meats there is. With fat levels of less than 2%, meat doesn't come any leaner.

That's a good selling point.  :)

So's this...

Quote
  "This land is cursed; the animals hop not run, birds run, not fly and the swans are black not white".

SO WROTE one of the first Europeans to set foot on Australia, Dirk Hartog, as he sailed away from the west coast in 1688.

Unfortunately for our environment this attitude prevailed throughout our settlement - the land was wrong and had to be changed into how a good European farm should be, the animals should be removed and replaced with good European animals.

Along the way we have caused huge damage to our fragile grazing lands. It's only in recent times that the concept of utilising this land with the animals that belong here has emerged. Doing so has the potential to deliver enormous environmental benefits.

From the home page.

Its a long time since I ate Kangaroo, when I was in Oz but I dont think it tasted like chicken or rabbit. There was nothing to dislike from what I remember. They also had Buffalo and Ostrich on the barbie at the same time and I found them all to be of good quality and nice textures and flavour.
I have had Ostrich here in the UK since those days and thats very nice, if the price came down it would be a viable alternative to beef for fillet steaks but as its a similar price then I would always buy fillet steak in preference.
Some of the tastiest meals I have had were in a small village in France where they used horse meat. I wonder why we dont eat horse meat here as that was very tasty too.

I suppose that vegetables, once processed into the meat of almost any animal become quite tasty eventually   :)
