Printer printing blue as green
« on: November 15, 2009, 17:09 »
Not sure if I've posted this here before, but anyway, I have an ongoing problem with my Brother DCP-330C all-in-one printer, printing blues as greens.  This only happens, however, when I print something using the computer.  If I do a straight copy on the printer, it prints the colours correctly, so I'm thinking this has to be something to do with Windows.  I have searched Google for things like 'reset Windows XP colour management', but come up with nothing useful, as all the links I've found seem to concentrate on the monitor, not printed colours.  I have also reinstalled the printer and drivers, and really don't know what else to try.  Any ideas?

If the printers own test pages are fine, it has to be the driver. Have you updated video drivers recently?

Not unless they came in a Windows Update.

The reason I ask is that a printer driver works closely with the video drivers to achieve its output.

Check what colour profile is showing against the printer and monitor.

I'm not sure where I'd find those, Rik.  I've just reinstalled the printer, driver, and software, once again, and the problem remains, but, curiously, it seems to be printing some blues OK.  I have just printed off the index page of Pals, and the text is in green, but the IDNet 'doughnut' is the correct shade of blue.  :stars:

For the monitor, right click an empty area of the desktop then Properties>Settings>Advanced>ColorManagement.

For the printer, Printers & Faxes, right click then printer then Properties>ColorManagement.

PS MS spelling. :)

Currently, the printer had sRGB colour profile, and the monitor had none.  I have removed sRGB from the printer, so currently they both have no colour profiles.  I have printed off this thread, and 'Rik' is green, and your 'purple' stars look more like the aqua ones on Netters.

I'm going to have to go now...  sorry!

Try using sRGB for both, see if it helps, or makes things worse.

Bye. :)

Odd. Can you try it from a different machine?

If that works, we know it's the driver on the main machine, so we can go for a deep clean and re-install.
